February 23, 2023: Claxton High School (CHS) Basketball will have changes for the upcoming school year. Eric Bluestein has resigned as the head coach of the CHS boys basketball team, and Ryan Tomblin has resigned as the head coach of the CHS girls basketball team.
Coach Bluestein and Coach Tomblin both submitted letters of resignation to Dr. Paul Mizell, Principal of CHS, this week. Coach Bluestein stated that he will continue in his role as Assistant Principal at Claxton Elementary School and added that he’d like to devote more time to family. Coach Tomblin stated appreciation for the opportunity to coach at his alma mater and for the relationships he’d formed while serving in this role.
Dr. Paul Mizell, stated, “We are very thankful for Coach Bluestein and his dedication to our student-athletes for the past 17 years. He has been an integral part of Claxton Athletics and has helped shape the lives and attitudes of our students to enable them to become successful young men who are able to handle adversity and overcome challenges.”
Dr. Mizell added, “We are also very appreciative of the commitment and devotion Coach Tomblin has given to our girls basketball program over the past six years where he worked diligently to teach them the game of basketball as well as teamwork and sportsmanship.”
Mr. Randy Cooper, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at CHS, stated, “The CHS athletic program would like to thank our basketball coaches for their time and devotion to our basketball programs over the years. In addition, I wish them the best of luck in all of their future endeavors and administrative responsibilities here in the Evans County Charter School System.”
