June 11, 2024: The Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts recognized Evans County Charter School System (ECCSS) with the Award of Distinction for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
Each year, school systems are required to prepare financial statements that are audited to ensure they are prepared accurately and according to standards. These statements provide information regarding school systems’ revenue, expenditures, and fund balance, as well as assets and liabilities. The Award of Distinction is presented to organizations who submit quality financial statements and supporting documents in a timely manner, whose annual financial report is given an unmodified audit opinion and is free of any significant deficiencies or material weaknesses, and comply with all Transparency in Government requirements.
Ms. Sierra Jimerson, Audit Manager for the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts (Statesboro Office), presented the award to Ms. LaMaudice Holmes, former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for ECCSS, and Dr. Marty Waters, Superintendent for ECCSS, at the June 10th meeting of the Evans County Board of Education. Ms. Jimerson stated, “The Award of Distinction for Excellence in Financial Reporting is reserved for those who go above and beyond in financial reporting, and I’m happy to share this well-deserved recognition with Ms. Holmes, Dr. Waters, and the school district.”
Dr. Marty Waters, Superintendent of ECCSS, stated, “This award is a testament to the excellence in financial reporting and processes our financial department has in place. Mrs. Holmes, our former CFO, and our bookkeepers, accounts payable, payroll, and administrators made this recognition possible by following the procedures and guidelines for finance management. ECCSS and our Board take management of the funds entrusted to us very seriously as we strive to be good stewards of our resources. I’m thankful for what our team consistently does to make sure that our finances are managed in an exemplary way.”
