September 6, 2024, 6:20 PM: A fourth grade student has been arrested for making threats to Claxton Elementary School. The threat was made after school at approximately 3:55 PM. Safety protocols were implemented at all campuses, and the Claxton Police Department secured the area and determined no threats were on campus. All lockdowns were lifted.
Dr. Marty Waters, Superintendent of Evans County Charter School System, stated, “We commend our Claxton Police Department and school officials for their actions this afternoon. Threats to the safety of our students and families are taken very seriously and will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law. ECCSS Implements Lockdown Protocols After School on Friday; CPD Safety Sweeps Reveal No Threat to Students or Staff
September 6, 2024: This afternoon at 3:55, Evans County Schools initiated lockdown protocols after receiving information from local authorities about a threat made by an anonymous caller. Because the call pinged at Claxton Elementary School, all campuses implemented lockdown protocols.
The Claxton Police Department sweeps revealed no threats to anyone remaining on campus. The area has been secured, and the lockdown has been lifted.
